CHRISTUS Health unveils new state-of-the-art CT scanner in Atlanta hospital

Advanced CT scanner expands diagnostic imaging capabilities

CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital-Atlanta is introducing new diagnostic imaging technology that will expand access to state-of-the-art care in Cass County.

The innovative CT scanner, the uCT ATLAS Astound from United Imaging, provides faster, safer and more accurate diagnostic imaging. It is designed to offer high-resolution imaging with reduced radiation exposure, shorter scan times and enhanced patient comfort.

“This new technology represents years of planning and dedication,” said Rachel Bouchard, administrative director at CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital-Atlanta. “It brings a level of diagnostic precision and patient comfort that was previously unavailable in our region.”

CT scans are often used when a more detailed view of the body is needed to diagnose or monitor medical conditions. They can help detect internal injuries, tumors, blood clots, infections and diseases affecting the brain, lungs, heart and other organs.

Bouchard said access to this level of technology is a game-changer for the Atlanta community. Previously, patients had to travel long distances to larger cities for this type of advanced imaging service. Now, this technology allows them to receive the same high-quality diagnostics close to home, saving time, reducing stress and enabling faster treatment decisions.

“This is more than just a new piece of equipment—it’s a lifeline for our community,” Bouchard said. “It means earlier detection, more accurate diagnoses and better outcomes for our patients. It means families can stay together during critical moments without the burden of travel.”

She said CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital-Atlanta is invested in providing innovative and compassionate care to the community.

“This is a bold step in ensuring that rural communities, like Atlanta, are not left behind when it comes to access to world-class health care,” she said.
