CHRISTUS Health is expanding access to specialty care in Sulphur Springs with the opening of the community's first dedicated endocrinology clinic, expanding local access to diagnosis and treatment for diabetes, thyroid disorders and other hormone-related conditions.
The new clinic, located at 103 Medical Circle, building 5A, was celebrated Monday, Oct. 12, with a blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony and will begin seeing patients as soon as Tuesday, Oct. 13.
“Adding endocrinology services gives patients in Sulphur Springs and the surrounding communities greater access to specialized care closer to home,” said Kathey Brown, director of clinic operations. “We are excited to welcome Dr. Akter and provide our patients with another important specialty service right here in their community.”
The program is led by Dr. Shamima Akter, a specialist in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism who brings extensive training and experience in internal medicine and caring for patients with hormone-related disorders.
Endocrinology focuses on diagnosing and treating conditions involving the body’s hormones and endocrine system. This includes diabetes, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis and other conditions that can affect metabolism, growth and overall body function.
“This clinic is more than just a building or a facility; it is where healing begins,” Akter said. “My goal is to work alongside each patient to understand their individual needs and develop a plan that helps them manage their condition and live a healthier life.”
The new clinic reflects CHRISTUS Health’s commitment to expanding access to personalized, high-quality specialty care throughout Northeast Texas. For more information on endocrinology in Sulphur Springs, call (903) 885-1785.
