  • Different pain-management options
  • An on-site operating room for Cesarean delivery
  • Couplet care that helps parents and newborns remain together
  • Breastfeeding education and lactation support
  • Postpartum education and recovery support

Your care team will help you understand what to expect during labor, delivery and recovery based on your health and your baby’s needs.

Prioritizing You and Your Baby

Our maternity team provides individualized care for you and your baby before, during and after delivery. We encourage you to ask questions, discuss your preferences and participate in decisions about your care.

After delivery, our team supports bonding, skin-to-skin contact, rooming-in and recognition of infant feeding cues when medically appropriate. Nurses and lactation professionals are available to provide education and individualized support during your hospital stay.

Every Baby Matters Home Visit Program

The Every Baby Matters program provides additional support for eligible families as they transition from hospital to home.

During a home visit, a registered nurse may evaluate the health of the postpartum patient and newborn, answer questions and provide education based on the family’s needs.

The program may support eligible families who would benefit from additional postpartum or newborn follow-up, including families with premature infants, young parents and families experiencing feeding or social concerns.

Ask your care team whether you qualify for the Every Baby Matters program and how follow-up visits are arranged.

Dedicated Mother-Baby Time

Mother-Baby Time provides a quieter period for rest, bonding, skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding support while you recover after delivery.

Keeping you and your baby together provides opportunities to recognize early feeding cues and respond when your baby is ready to breastfeed. Our nurses and lactation professionals are available to answer questions and provide individualized support.

Rather than following a single feeding schedule for every newborn, your care team will help you understand your baby's feeding cues and any specific feeding recommendations based on your baby's needs.

International Board Certified Lactation Consultants

At CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - New Braunfels, our International Board Certified Lactation Consultants, or IBCLCs, provide specialized breastfeeding and lactation support during your hospital stay and after you return home.

IBCLCs are health care professionals with specialized education and clinical experience in breastfeeding and lactation care. Requirements for certification include health sciences education, lactation-specific education, clinical experience and successful completion of a comprehensive certification examination.

To maintain the IBCLC credential, lactation consultants must meet ongoing continuing education and recertification requirements that support continued professional development and evidence-based care.

Our IBCLCs collaborate with families and members of the health care team to address concerns such as:

  • Breastfeeding positioning and latch
  • Milk production and milk transfer
  • Pumping and expressing breast milk
  • Breastfeeding discomfort
  • Feeding after discharge
  • More complex infant-feeding needs

Support is tailored to the clinical needs and feeding goals of each family. If you would like to meet with an IBCLC during your hospital stay, ask your nurse or another member of your care team.
